Every August, red and white automatically become the colors of choice as Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day. But there are plenty of other ways to express your Indonesian pride through fashion.
This year, Buttonscarves turns to songket as a way to celebrate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and Independence Day.
Buttonscarves Celebrates Independence with Songket
In celebration of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, Buttonscarves has teamed up with Sarinah to introduce the Songket Collection, bringing one of Indonesia’s cultural heritages closer to the everyday lifestyle of modern women.
Songket as a Fashion Statement
Through the Songket Collection, Buttonscarves transforms songket into a fashion statement across its pieces, featuring two signature motifs: Nona Manis and Pegunungan.
Nona Manis represents warmth and togetherness, while Pegunungan reflects strength and resilience.
Both motifs are combined with Buttonscarves’ signature “B” monogram across scarves and apparel, creating a thoughtful balance between Indonesia’s cultural heritage and the brand’s distinctive identity.
A Collaborative Trunk Show by Buttonscarves and Sarinah
Following the official launch of the Songket Collection on August 13, Buttonscarves and Sarinah hosted a private trunk show on August 16. The event also marked a new chapter for Buttonscarves as it introduced the collection under its new Creative Director, Mifthahul Jannah.
The trunk show also celebrated Sarinah’s 64-year journey in supporting Indonesian culture and craftsmanship.
“We want to bring wastra closer to the way women dress today, while encouraging more people to carry Indonesia’s heritage into the future with pride,” said Mifthahul Jannah, Creative Director of Buttonscarves.
It doesn't have to be red and white and it doesn’t have to be just in August.
Through the Songket Collection, Buttonscarves invites us to see Indonesian Independence in a more meaningful way from wearing fashion pieces inspired by cultural heritage to supporting local craftsmanship and making it part of our everyday lifestyle.
Because celebrating Indonesia doesn’t always have to look like red and white. Sometimes, it can look like songket.
